Wow! I cannot believe it is already April and I technically haven’t written one single blog post this year. Just when I thought life couldn’t get any busier, 2016 happened.
So, what have I been up to? Mostly classes! I know, I know, I’m a PhD student and classes are not supposed to be “that important.” But with 10 credits of grad-level classes I’m swamped. I have done some other pretty awesome things at work this year:
Jan- Learned how to use our lab’s new Lachat (a nifty analyzer that can tell how much nitrogen and phosphorus we have in our soil, water, and plants). I also managed to make it through winter storm Jonas which brought back horrible memories of snow in Michigan.
Feb- Attended the 3rd annual Rural Studies conference at Penn State (Dani and I wrote a blog post on our experience).
March- Started developing a research project to answer some burning questions we’ve had while reviewing literature for my larger project.
April- I’ve just started my first graduate student grant! I will also present my plan of study to my committee in the next few weeks, wish me luck!
Although I've been busy, don’t worry too much about me, I have had a few opportunities to get away, relax, and explore including a lovely visit to Flag Ponds Nature Park in Calvert County, MD and my first real vacation in many many many years to St. Michaels MD.
Well, that’s all for now, stay tuned for some exciting PhD adventures!
